Above is the link to my final project for 8842 Principles of Distance Education. It describes the significance and need for learner communities in education. I look forward to your feedback.

  1. Sandy, nice job! I especially like how you used those professional child actors :o) I can take away some of the ideas you highlighted in this video to aid me in my efforts to improve the school culture where I teach. We have seen many transitions and hardships, but we are not coming together as a cohesive team. I hope to collaborate and use some of what I have learned in this course and from your presentation to do so. Thank you

  2. Sandy,
Nice and clear presentation of the topic! I liked that you incorporated the kid’s clips into the presentation. Building an effective learning community can be a challenge, especially in distance education. Your presentation clearly stated the important points of a successful learning community.

  3. Love the clips from the kids! Their definitions reflect quite a lot of wisdom from people so young.

Your organization and points made were well thought out and presented in a pleasing manner. Great job!

  4. Hi,
I was very impressed with this presentation. What I liked most was the inclusion of the kids. Certainly they were some cute kids, but I found the embedding of video into your slide gave it a more engaging appeal. I use Captivate a lot at my job and with a Moodle project I am working on, but I should do as you did and embed video where appropriate. I did notice you had some feedback on the sound. I use another Adobe product to edit sound. Soundbooth is a powerful tool that can take away extraneous sounds. Great presentation!

  5. Sandy, the first half of your presentation with the kids was good and defined community, but the second half, was totally unexpected and had the WOW factor. The use of pictures and music was fun and conveyed the meaning of community quite impressively. Thx.

  6. Hi Sandy,

When I was putting my presentation together, my biggest concern was sound quality. I was not sure that the tools that I would be using would be static free or modulate the volume of different components of the video as well as I would have liked.

I used Windows Movie Maker and the built in narration tool there. Your slides are great; the use of kids terrific. The sound, however, had too much difference between your very clear voice and those of the other clips.
